Letter from Chairman AFOCOM-page-0.png

Alliance of Filipino Overseas Community (AFOCOM) is a juridical entity established under the laws of the Republic of Indonesia. It is headquartered in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, and present in major capital cities of Indonesia such as Semarang, Surabaya, Jember, Bandung and more. We are a group of professionals in Indonesia consisting of business executives, accountants, teachers, business and technical managers, and skilled technicians. Currently, we are collaborating with other Filcom groups in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah North Borneo. We are pursuing to collaborate with other Filcom groups in Southeast Asia.

Having been overseas for many years, we learned and gained valuable lessons and experiences most especially that we are able to compare and contrast the culture, practices and most of all the development of our host countries which we hope sooner than later will also be realized, in its custom-fit fashion, in our beloved country, the Philippines.

Our organization is founded on the vision of (i) rekindling and keeping the true spirit of Bayanihan, (ii) keeping and enriching our heritage, and (iii) pursuing our aspirational goal by contributing some concrete suggestions and inputs under our program Balik Talino anchored on our collective experience, knowledge and skills built over the years, especially our broader and deeper view of our motherland since we become overseas Filipinos. The covid pandemic has taught us that, through virtual engagements, we can extend our expertise to Inang Bayan even if we are in a foreign land.

Pinoy Fiesta in Indonesia: A Celebration of Filipino Culture and Heritage

By Marilyn P. Dolor

The Filipino community in Indonesia celebrates Pinoy Fiesta annually, a festive event that showcases the rich culture and traditions of the Philippines. It is a day of festivities, food, music, and dance, which brings together Filipinos and Indonesians to celebrate the cultural diversity of the Philippines.

The Pinoy Fiesta is usually held in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, and is organized by the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, the Filipino Women's Association, and other Filipino community organizations. The event features various cultural presentations, including traditional Filipino dances, songs, and music, which are performed by Filipino and Indonesian artists.

The highlight of the Pinoy Fiesta is the food festival, where attendees can indulge in a variety of Filipino dishes, such as adobo, sinigang, lechon, and pancit. Filipinos in Indonesia also bring their own specialties, such as kakanin (rice cakes) and other desserts, to share with the community. The food festival is an excellent opportunity for Indonesians to experience the flavors and tastes of the Philippines and learn more about the country's culinary heritage.

Aside from food and cultural presentations, the Pinoy Fiesta also features a bazaar where Filipinos and Indonesians can buy Filipino products, such as clothes, accessories, and souvenirs. The bazaar showcases the creativity and craftsmanship of Filipino artisans and entrepreneurs, who bring their products to the event to share with the community.

The Pinoy Fiesta is not only a celebration of Filipino culture and heritage but also a way for Filipinos in Indonesia to connect with their fellow countrymen and share their experiences and stories. It is a day of camaraderie, friendship, and cultural exchange, which strengthens the bonds between the Philippines and Indonesia.

In conclusion, the Pinoy Fiesta in Indonesia is a vibrant and colorful celebration of Filipino culture and heritage. It is an opportunity for Filipinos to share their traditions and customs with Indonesians and showcase the beauty and diversity of the Philippines. Through this event, the Filipino community in Indonesia continues to promote cultural awareness, understanding, and appreciation among its members and the broader Indonesian community.
